What does EMDR stand for?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. But it should have been called Reprocessing. EMDR is the most evidence-based therapy for trauma at this time.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

  • We take your history of trauma.

  • I ensure our  ability to keep you feeling safe.

  • We zero in on the disturbing memory and process it until the disturbance is gone, though the memory remains. EMDR uses brief bouts of bilateral stimulation while the client first pictures the memory, then sees what other thoughts/ sensations/ feelings pop into their head/body/heart. The mind that heals itself, basically.

EMDR is NOT hypnotherapy. It does not make you forget. You do not have to forgive just because you allow the painful charge to be released.
